Aerobie AeroPress - How to Make Coffee like Tim Wendleboe.

ROASTe has been offering the Aerobie AeroPress espresso and coffee maker for a while now. I really enjoy this method of making a delicious cup of coffee. I can not help but notice the attention this prep method has been receiving recently. It seems the Aerobie AeroPress is very popular with the crowd here on ROASTe and is well received in most coffee circles.

My personal search for the brewing method that best suited me with my Aerobie AeroPress lead me to the simple yet excellent method Tim Wendleboe (A World Champion Barista) uses in his world famous coffee shop in Norway. I must stress that this is just the method that best suits me because there is no right or wrong way to use this device. A quick search reveals many recipes and methods other owners have created to complement the original instructions included with the Aerobie AeroPress.

Here is the method described by Tim Wendleboe:

1. Rinse the paper filter with running tap water for 10 seconds

2. Turn the Aeropress upside down with the handle about 1 cm inside the bottom of the Aeropress. (Inverted method)

3. Use 14  grams of freshly filter or slightly fine filter ground coffee (light roast)

4. Pour 2dl of water at about 95°C over the coffee.

5. Allow 45 to 60 seconds steep time after 3 vigorous stirs.

6. Mount the filter and filter holder on the Aeropress.

7. Turn the Aeropress around and press the contents into a large cup or pitcher by using your body weight

8. Stir the finished coffee and enjoy.

This method is a little unconventional since the water is hotter than most and the dose is smaller than usual too.  You would think the cup might be over extracted but instead it nails the flavors - especially a lighter roasted bean.  I hope some of my fellow press heads will try this method and let me know what they think. Press on and enjoy!
