Cat-poo-chino- Do Your Love It?

The hot question on Jayne Clark’s mind yesterday was “Would you pay $46 for a cup of cat poo coffee?” shining the spotlight once again on that most delectable delicacy, aka Kopi Luwak coffee. It seems that the AYANA Resort and Spa in Bali charges exactly that amount for a cup of Asian palm civet-processed java. First, before you rush to answer, pour yourself a cup of whatever’s in your coffee pot and consider that this is not an ordinary coffee nor an ordinary cup into which a waitperson quickly slops your coffee. This coffee is brewed right at or next to your table and they serve it on a silver tray. Also this is not everyone’s resort, but a spa that charges $385 to $1650 a night. Clark figures that with those fees, what’s $46 for a cup of coffee on a silver tray? Also before you poo-poo the coffee charge, keep in mind that this is one luxury resort. The rooms are first class and the higher priced nights are for personal villas with their own pool which overlooks a cliff and the Indian Ocean. The spa treatments easily run $500 per service. They do look quite enticing though, and one can start unwinding just by looking at their pictures on the website. Lastly, you need to consider the benefits of the cat poo coffee, which Clark cleverly has dubbed “cat-poo-chino”. You might recall that this is the coffee which is derived from beans which are first processed through the digestive tract of a palm civet cat. The beans are collected from its discharge, much like collecting diamonds from your cat’s litter box. The beans are washed and then light roasted. The result is the smoothest coffee available, with rich aroma and taste.
